Polyethylene (PE) has for many years been the obvious choice for marine pipelines. In many cases, the flexibility of the PE pipe is a prerequisite for successful installation. As the pipe material has a lower weight than water, extra weight is required to submerge the pipe.
Heavy homogeneous jacket
A common method is to use concrete weights that are attached to the pipe. Hallingplast SESU (“Self-Submerging PE pipe”) is a further development of the pipe concept, where the weight instead consists of a heavy homogeneous jacket with the same density as concrete. The result is a design that provides more efficient logistics and handling for the installer, as well as significantly faster installation and a more robust solution for the pipe owner.
Increased protection during submersion
The greatest risk of damage to the PE100 RC pipe is during the submersion process. Hallingplast SESU enables controlled submersion of the pipe as you can control the pipe’s submersion rate and achieve an optimal “S-curve”. Hallingplast recommends minimum wall thickness SDR11 for the installation of pressure pipes.
Long service life
The weighting is produced under controlled conditions in the factory around and along the entire pipe. This results in a non-corrosive design where all materials will have the same or longer service life than the media pipe itself. In most cases, it provides a life expectancy of at least 100 years. The built-in weighting also provides increased protection against external damage from fishing and anchors and a reduced risk of snagging.
